Hi! Thanks you for the comment and question you left on my blog about teaching children with Asperger's. I typed out this huge long answer about a month ago and deleted it by accident!

I found carolyn (the girl's name) to be severly affected by Asperger's. She had been abused as a baby in a Romanian orphanage which has excacerbated her condition. Praise the Lord, she was adopted by a lovely and loving family and sent to our private Christian school.
I love dher because she said exactly what she thought which I found refreshing, she looked at some things in wonder (a brooch or a fluffy jacket). It was like having the privilege of listening to a new born baby speak (if they could), being in awe of the things surrounding them.
Carolyn struggled in Spanish, she had a very hard time with concepts and the 'why' of things but she certainly knew the 'what'. I began to wonder how I could teach her Spanish so i decided to find her most strong point - and that was ability to rote lear through memoriation. Facts stuck in her brain even if she couldn't interpret them. So I cut out some shapes (circulo, triangulo, etc) and we just said them over and over. It was interesting because she had this extraordinarily ability to retain and sya these words. She would just come up to me and say "Triangulo" or "como estas"? and I just loved it.
The sad thing is that the school didn't "expect" her to learn in Spanish. I don't know why. But if she could have had aid in some of these subjects she would have surprised them all witht tendencies bordering on genius.
I no longer teach due to illness. I'm 26 and this is VERY frustrating!! I love the Picture at the top of your blog - it's fanastic.

Have a great weekend away,

Anna :)
